An original Tuskegee Airman Harold Sawyer Autographed aircraft panelHarold Sawyer was one of the original members of the Tuskegee Airmen, a cadre of black aviators that formed the 332nd Fighter Group led by the legendary Benjamin O. Davis.Sawyer was assigned to the group’s 301st Fighter Squadron, flying P-40’s early on then transitioning to P-51 Mustangs while based out of Italy. He flew 130 combat missions. It was while flying on bomber escort duty in Mustangs during July 1944 that Sawyer shot down a Bf-109 and a FW-190.Harold Sawyer autographed this panel #2/10 which depicts the distinctive insignia of the 301st Fighter Squadron of the 332nd Fighter Group.Artwork was researched and hand-painted by noted aviation artist, Ron Kaplan, on actual scrap P-51 Mustang aluminum. It is mounted along with an engraved ID plaque against a black background in a ready-to-frame, 16” by 17” Swedish Walnut shadow-box frame.The piece comes with a photo of Sawyer taken at the edition signing. It’s an outstanding piece to start or add to any Tuskegee Airmen collection.
